After Effects includes a variety of keyframe assistants, which automate
the process of creating keyframes. The After Effects Production Bundle includes
one called Motion Math that provides a scripting language for calculating
keyframe values. (The Production Bundle is the extra-featured, $1995 version
of After Effects.)
Motion Math includes a 13 canned scripts that perform some marvelous
tasks. My favorite is Comp Audio, which lets you tie a piece of footage
to an audio track so that the footage's characteristics -- its size, rotation,
whatever -- change in tempo with the audio. You can also apply Comp Audio
to filters.
In my column, I show how you might use Comp Audio to have a text title
resize in tempo with a drum beat. Below is the movie illustrated in the
